At ICER, the Spanish specialist in braking systems, we lead the launch of new brake pad references for the aftermarket. Every year, we find solutions for dozens of models—many of them bestsellers—before anyone else, thus offering our distributors the opportunity to be, for a time, the only ones in the independent market who can meet the needs of workshops.
When a new vehicle model hits the market, our technical and R&D department begins developing brake pads to ensure we are the first to offer these new references. This differentiating factor involves a complex process that we also concentrate at our plant in Tudela, Navarra.
The process, step by step:
At our technology center, the R&D department determines the friction material formulation that best suits the needs of each model.
For its part, the technical department designs the plans with the measurements and develops and certifies all the components that will later be included in the brake pads: brackets, shims, wear indicators, etc. It is worth noting that we are the only manufacturer that includes a sachet of anti-noise grease in all our brake pad sets to help ensure the best possible installation experience for both the workshop and the driver from the very beginning.
Simultaneously, at ICER TOOLS (another company in the group), the mold and tooling used for subsequent manufacturing are designed. Our production is in-house, so we control every detail regarding quality.
Next, we manufacture the first prototypes and produce an initial batch of brake pads to verify that everything is perfect. Later, once all the rigorous pre-production quality controls have been successfully passed, we send the new part numbers to the relevant authority for ECE-R90 homologation.
A process ‘made in Spain’ from start to finish, which is also synonymous with our commitment not only to our clients – to whom we manage to offer differentiated solutions – but also to our environment – as an economic and social engine – and to the market of which it is a part.
